Our Story
Becky and Dale are passionate about providing a unique, inspiring, and elegant experience at their vineyard and wine tasting venue in the Texas Hill Country.
Nestled between Austin and Johnson City, Klein Vineyard Ranch (KVR) grows Tempranillo and Mourvedre grapes, two red wine varietals originating from Spain, Portugal, and the Rhone Valley of France.
KVR typifies the Hill Country appellation features of stony hills, springs, and steep canyons, with a predominance of limestone and clay soil, not unlike the French, Spanish and Portuguese terroir.

2019 Tempranillo
2019 is the 3rd harvest from the Tempranillo vines at Dale and Becky Klein's vineyard west of Henley in the Hill Country AVA. Planted in 2015, their vineyard has shallow, rocky soils over limestone slabs on the side of a small mountain making it an ideal site to restrain the natural vigor of Tempranillo. The vineyard is also blessed with constant wind, helping to reduce the disease pressure from rainy periods that can frequently occur in Central Texas, and resulting in grapes with naturally thicker skins.
2019 was a relatively cool year, starting with ample soil moisture from plentiful rain in the preceding El Niño winter. A wet spring yielded to a relatively mild early summer, with the heat finally intensifying in late July. Our crew hand harvested and sorted the grapes at night, returning them to the winery to destem at daybreak. After fermentation, the wine was aged in neutral Russian oak barrels for 8 months and lightly filtered at bottling.

Becky and Dale planted their first vineyard of Tempranillo grapes in 2015.
In 2016 they planted Mourvedre, and a third block of Tempranillo in 2017, for a total of 5 acres of grapes. The first harvest took place in 2017 which launched their first vintage of wine–KVR Tempranillo 2017.
The Hill Country AVA is the third largest certified Viticultural Area in America with over 9 million acres and a massive region that runs north of San Antonio and west of Austin. The grapes in this area range from Bordeaux blends to Italian varietals, as well as some cool-climate grapes. This is a quality wine producing region, and the wines have won numerous awards both at home and abroad.
